The 2015 annual Cycle the Erie Canal bike tour is heading to Rome. 600 Cyclists or more are registered to spent the night in Rome July 16th after a 49 mile ride from Syracuse with the tent city for their campers at Fort Stanwix National Monument.

Those who are not camping are staying in local hotels and bed & breakfasts! On Friday July 17th they'll be riding 62 miles from Rome to Canajoharie.

All the cyclists lunch on their own each day in communities along the trail. They'll also be dining on their own in Seneca Falls on Tuesday night and in Rome on Thursday night.

Two buses, courtesy of Oneida County Tourism, begin leaving Fort Stanwix at 4pm to local restaurants and shopping areas, and will take the riders to various locations in Rome. The 600 plus visitors will be exploring The Fort Stanwix National Monument, Rome Family YMCA, Rome Capitol Theatre, Rome Historical Society & MuseumRome Art and Community CenterJervis Public LibraryToccolana ClubRome Sports Hall of Fame & Museum, and more.

This event is put together by Parks & Trails New York and all the local communities on the biking route. The Rome Area Chamber of Commerce works diligently year after year to help make this a successful event that benefits the Rome community and local businesses.

This is the 17th Cycling the Erie Canal Bike Tour across New York State along the scenic and historic Erie Canal, named a National Heritage Corridor. Bicyclists enjoy great scenery, interesting history, and unparalleled cycling on this 8-day, 400-mile adventure. They experience the canal and enjoy historians' stories about the people, places and things that made life along the Erie Canal so unique in its day and so important to the history of New York State and the country.
