The Violet Festival began 20 years ago in honor of Lyndon Lyon who developed the first double pink violets in the world out of his greenhouse in Dolgeville.

The 20th Violet Festival will begin this Friday with the crowning of the Festival King and Queen, the presentation of Lyndon Lyon Community Award, and the Violet Festival Princess Pageant. There will also be village-wide garage sales, an Ice Cream Social and a concert with the Dolgeville Community Band.

The Dolgeville Festival is a year-round effort by the residents of Dolgeville to preserve the historical aspects of the Village of Dolgeville. The Festival draws more than 75 vendors, 80 organizations that participate in the parade, and over 10,000 people to the Village during the three-day event.
