Why Do I have to Replace My E-Z Pass?
Did you recently receive a letter telling you that your E-Z Pass needed to be replaced? Here is the reason why.
E-Z Pass transponders have a life of about 10 years. Specifically, it's the battery inside that wears out after about 10 years and since the entire E-Z Pass is sealed, the battery can not be easily replaced.
If you have an E-Z Pass issued by the New York State Thruway Authority, you may receive a letter letting you know you'll receive a new E-Z Pass in the mail and to return your current E-Z Pass in the postage paid envelope included with your E-Z Pass.
