The restaurant, the nearly 100-year-old Crystal Restaurant that was famed for its hot Tom and Jerry drinks during the holiday season, has closed, at least for now.

Owners Peter and Libby Dephtereos say they were forced to shut down after the city condemned two neglected apartments on the floors above the restaurant.

The Watertown landmark itself is in good shape, and the owners hope to reopen when the building issues are resolved. The Crystal Restaurant explained in detail on Facebook after a number of people questioned it's sudden closing. The city inspector stated that "The Crystal and its owners are fine because they took care of that area. The upstairs was not taken care of."

The Crystal Restaurant is hoping to reopen as soon as possible.
