Unicorn and Lego Sundaes Part of Kid Inspired Menu at New Ice Cream Parlor
Who knows more about ice cream than kids? A new parlor in Central New York is serving up tasty frozen treats created from the minds of 4 young children.
Lego, Dirt and Unicorn Sundaes, smash cakes and Brett's Bombers are just a few of the kid inspired items you'll find on the menu at Charlee's Ice Cream, that just opened in Camillus, New York.
Ben and Kristin Hussong opened Charlee's, named after their daughter Charlotte, when they noticed there wasn't an ice cream shop in their town. They have 4 kids and money was tight with Ben going to law school while Kristen worked as a nurse. "Going for ice cream was an experience for our family," said Kristin. "It was one of the few things we could afford to do and so it became very special to us. Over the years, the kids have grown to love family ice cream nights."
In the middle of a pandemic, the family decided to take the jump and open a shop in their neighborhood. "We would often leave the baseball diamonds and would be looking at a long drive to celebrate a win or great game," Kristen said. "Fast forward to 2020, all of our lives were changed. Again, ice cream became an experience because we were lucky to be able to have that last summer."
This summer, the family is serving up a new experience to the community - kid inspired ice cream treats.
"It's really cool to see them take ownership of the shop and the menu, even at their young ages of 8, 9, 9, and 11," said Kristin.
Charlee's Ice Cream is in the plaza on Kasson Road in Camillus. You can eat in, order curb side or go through the drive-thru. "It's helpful in the cold CNY days when people want ice cream but do not want to get out of a toasty car."
