The Long And Winding Creek

Enjoyed a great vacation last week, did you miss me?  Certainly enjoyed the great weather here in Central New York.  Basically a "Staycation", even though I do not care much for that term.  Spent the week camping near West Canada Creek.

I can think of nothing more relaxing than floating gently down the creek while the sun shines warmly on your face.  I did two 3 hour runs.  The first one on Monday with the kids (pictured) and the second with the wife on Thursday.  It was all fun and games until our tube decided to give way to a growing leak.  We were halfway through the run when we lost all air.  Yikes!  Here we were at least 2 miles from the end of our float and we basically had to walk the rocky creek dragging the depleted tube.  Have you ever tried to walk a long distance in a rocky slippery creek?  Yeah, not too fun.  We finally found a place where we could walk up the bank.  Another 3/4 mile uphill in the 90 degree heat we dragged the unusable tube.  Finally made it to Highway 8 that left a mile walk back to our campsite.  Walked the last mile on the highway dragging the tube.  It was in shreds when we arrived at our destination.  Do you think we will be able to return this thing to the store?  In hindsight, it turned out to be a nice vacation.  Very relaxing.
