We hope you'll embrace our new effort to help our furry friends. This is our first Pet Food Drive, and we're looking to make a BIG impact in the shelter community.

Anyone who listens to 96.1 The Eagle knows how passionate Cindy is about pets. We do everything we can to help our local animal shelters. We have featured and promoted hundreds of dogs that now live in loving homes, and we pride ourselves on being the voice for the voiceless.

This holiday season, we're stepping it up and asking you to donate specific pet food brands for the Herkimer County Humane Society and House of Paws Rescue in Utica. They are both non-profit shelters that run on a shoestring budget and rely on financial donors like you to care for pets until they are adopted.

Although all of the pet food donated will be used, please purchase the specific brands currently being used at the shelter. Switching a dog's food abruptly can cause gastrointestinal upset such as vomiting, diarrhea, and a decreased appetite. Any time you change a dog's food, you should gradually transition to the new diet to give your dog's system time to adjust to the change.

The Humane Society is a non-profit organization with a 501 C 3 designation — NOT a county-run agency. They depend almost entirely on volunteers and community support.

The Herkimer County Humane Society uses "Purina ONE Smart Blend Natural Lamb & Rice Formula Adult Dry Dog Food."

The Herkimer County Humane Society also uses canned dog food without gravy. They take marrow bones, wash them,  fill them with the wet food, and freeze. Every day the shelter dogs get the treat at the end of the day.
