‘Sisters’ Trailer: Tina Fey and Amy Poehler Throw a House Party
If there’s one movie you’re excited about on December 18 this year it’s...probably Star Wars: The Force Awakens. But, if there are two movies you’re excited about on December 18, the other one should definitely be Sisters, starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. The former SNL co-stars and Golden Globes hosts reteam for the only comedy bold enough to take on Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, and we’ve got the first trailer for you.
Truth be told, it’s a little disappointing that Sisters is opening up against The Force Awakens. A Tina Fey/Amy Poehler comedy feels like an event in its own right and doesn’t deserve to be trampled by a force from a galaxy far, far away. But, in a bit of counterprogramming, this just might work.
Despite their hilarious work together over the years (and we’ll even include the so-so Baby Mama in that list), this trailer didn’t quite produce the level of laughs that we had hoped. Still, the film boasts an impressive enough comedy pedigree that we’re willing to put our trust in this movie, regardless of this footage. (Neighbors, one of the best comedies of last year, also produced mostly lackluster trailers.)
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler reunite for Sisters, a new film from Pitch Perfect director Jason Moore about two disconnected sisters summoned home to clean out their childhood bedroom before their parents sell the family house. Looking to recapture their glory days, they throw one final high-school-style party for their classmates, which turns into the cathartic rager that a bunch of ground-down adults really need.
With Poehler and Fey now retired from their successful stint as Golden Globes hosts, this may be one of the last times we get to see these two working together. That may not be enough to bump Star Wars from your first choice that weekend, but we think these sisters are still worth a visit.
