Guys, if you want to look tougher and more masculine, skip the gym membership and grab the hair clippers. A new study shows bald men are perceived to be taller, stronger and more dominant than they actually are.

Research done at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School revealed volunteers rated photos of men with shorn scalps as more powerful, influential, and authoritative than those with a full head of hair. What’s more, men without hair were thought to be nearly an inch taller and 13 percent stronger than other men.

But before you reach for the razor, there were some downsides: bald men were rated as less attractive overall, and the study participants said they looked about four years older than guys with hair.

That aside, researcher Dr. Albert Mannes said there are probably a few reasons why bald heads are seen as being so tough.

“Shaved heads are found in American culture in traditionally masculine professions, such as the military, law enforcement, and sports,” he explained, adding that guys who shave their heads are also viewed as unconventional and more confident since society places such a “high aesthetic value on hair.”

On the other hand, dudes with thinning hair scored lower on every trait in the study, proving that maybe just being done with that fuzz once and for all could be good for your image.
