After a flurry of construction activity on Saturday (7/15/17), Oneida Street has temporarily reopened in the Town of New Hartford.

A sinkhole opened near the New Hartford/Paris town line after flooding caused damage to pipes under the road. It has been closed ever since as they prepared to replace the creek drainage with new equipment. Trucks were seen Saturday morning transporting the debris away and by 2pm, the road was reopened with a temporary layer of gravel.

This roadway is an essential connection between the two towns' residents and businesses so it is quite a relief to have it open again. It will probably be closed from time to time as they complete the work.

Hopefully this will also help alleviate some of the flooding problems in this area, although with more frequent severe storms this season it remains to be seen if further work will be needed.
