The New York Mets' Franchise Four was announced during Tuesday's MLB All-Star Game festivities.

They are, in no particular order, Keith Hernandez, Tom Seaver, Mike Piazza and...David Wright.

Personally, I question Wright's place on the list, but maybe I'm not being fair. After all, he is the franchise's all-time leader in runs, hits, doubles, RBIs and is currently second in home runs. He's missed a huge chunk of this season with spinal stenosis. If he returns, he'll probably become the team's long-ball leader before he calls it a career.

Okay, fair enough.

I do, however, think John Franco got shortchanged a bit. He along with Gary Carter, Dwight Good and Darryl Strawberry were the other four candidates who were eligible in an online fan voting system that determined each MLB team's Franchise Four.

The case is simple. Franco is fourth on the baseball's all-time saves list, has the most saves of any left handed pitcher ever and spent 13 seasons with the Mets. He was reliable in of the course of some sour season in the 1990's and continued to be as the team made playoff appearances in the late 90's and early 2000's. Plus, he was an overachiever from Brooklyn and a fan favorite as he played in the city he grew up in. Surprised that didn't buy him some extra fan votes, but hey.

Also, you could make a real case for Carter, but in my opinion Piazza deserved the nod over 'The Kid' and you probably wouldn't have two catchers on the Franchise Four list.
