Extreme's greatest hit has been given the Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon tribute treatment, complete with a shot-for-shot remake of the music video.

"More Than Words," recorded for the band's 1990 album Extreme II: Pornograffiti, was released as a single the following spring and spent much of the summer of 1991 in heavy rotation, finally peaking at No. 1 on the Hot 100 on June 8. Although the band hit No. 4 with the follow-up, "Hole Hearted," they found future crossover success hard to come by and started a decade-long split in 1996, with singer Gary Cherone briefly joining Van Halen.

But if Extreme's time in the spotlight proved short-lived, "More Than Words" endures, as evidenced by this goofily affectionate homage, which stars actor and Tenacious D frontman Jack Black as Cherone and finds Fallon filling in for guitarist Nuno Bettencourt. While a fan would probably never mistake it for the original, it's clear some effort went into this — compare it with the original video, which you can watch below.

Fallon and Black's "More Than Words" joins a long list of rock impressions he's pulled off since taking his spot behind a late night talk show desk, and continues a recent viral streak that includes an all-star a cappella rendition of Queen's "We Are the Champions" as well as a duet with Neil Young that found Fallon pulling out his spot-on Young impression.

Extreme are currently touring behind the 25th anniversary of Pornograffiti. The band's most recent album, Saudades de Rock, was released in 2008.
