High levels of E.coli caused the DEC to delay the opening of 'Million Dollar Beach.'

High E.coli levels associated with last week's rain delayed the opening of the Lake George (aka "Million Dollar").  The most recent test results are in, and the E.coli levels are below the Department of Health (DOH) sanitary threshold.

The beach is now open to swimming seven days a week through Labor Day.

DEC, the town and village of Lake George, and the Lake George Association are working to identify and eliminate the source of E.coli in the waters at the beach. DEC's investigation includes extensive sampling to track down potential sources of bacteria, and the agency will be working with state and local officials as necessary to quickly implement actions to identify and terminate any continuing pathogen contamination. Sampling will be conducted on a daily basis to ensure the safety of the swimming area.
