Emergency responders rushed to a farm after a barn housing more than 100 cows collapsed under the weight of heavy snow in Central New York.

It happened on State Route 12-D in the town of Leyden at the Jones family farm.

The sheer weight of all the snow over the past month and a half proved too much for the structure, causing it to buckle and cave in.

Constable and Boonville First Responders worked with family, friends and fellow farmers to rescue as many cows as possible.

"The amount of team work that went into saving the lives of as many cows as possible was truly unbelievable. Both departments and all of the family, friends and fellow farmers that came to help was truly amazing. This is what taking care of your community is all about. In a world full of chaos, and as hard of a situation this was, every single person came there with their heart in the right place in a family’s time of need."

Clean Your Roof

This isn't the first roof to collapse under the excess amount of snow we've seen this winter in Central New York.

It's important to clear off the heavy snow to avoid potential collapses. If you are unable to clean it yourself, you should consider calling a professional to come and help.

With more snow on the way, it's only going to get worse.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 7 PM February 12 to 10 AM February 13.

A Lake Effect Snow Warning then goes into effect at 4 PM February 12 and runs until 1 AM February 15.

5 to 10 inches of snow is expected with over a foot possible in western Oneida and northern Madison County.
