
Identity Unknown: Fishermen Find Body Washed Up on New York Shoreline
New York State Police are investigating whose body was found washed up on a shoreline in a bay area adjacent to Lake Ontario.
The grisly discovery was made by fishermen who reported finding the body on Thursday afternoon on the shoreline of Blind Sodus Bay in the town of Wolcott. The small town of approximately 4,500 residents is located in the northeastern corner of Wayne County, approximately 90-minutes from the Utica-area.
At the time of the announcement, authorities had yet to indicate if the remains were from a male or female victim, or an approximate age range. In releasing information on the incident, Troopers were asking anyone with any information to contact them.
Police did say it appeared that the body had been in the for an 'extended period of time.'
The area of the where the remains were located were said to be near Ingersoll Drive in Wolcott, and were subsequently taken to the Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office so that an autopsy could be performed.
Blind Sodus Bay is connected to the massive Lake Ontario, whose shores include Watertown, Rochester, along with areas of Canada like Hamilton, Ontario, Toronto and Kingston.
