Huey Lewis & the News are primed for a comeback after nearly two decades without releasing new original material as they preview their next album with the song "Her Love Is Killin' Me."

You can listen to the song below.

The LP's title hasn't been revealed yet, but it's expected next year, and will be the band's first collection of new songs since 2001's Plan B. Soulsville, a 2009 album that was comprised of R&B covers. As Lewis noted in a press release, the years they spent performing the new work aided the sessions held in their Marin County, Calif., studio.

"We were in no hurry with these songs," Lewis explained. "The more we road-tested them, the tighter they got, and I think we ended up with some of our best work."

In addition to the upcoming album, Lewis is in the midst of working on a musical based on his songs called The Heart of Rock & Roll. It premiered in San Diego last September; he hopes to stage it in other cities in the future.

Lewis' career was placed in doubt last year when he was diagnosed with Meniere’s disease, which caused him to cancel all future tour plans. The condition affects the inner ear and his ability to perform.

"Even though I can hear you, we can talk, I can talk on the phone — I can't sing," he said in an interview. "I can't hear music. I can do everything but what I love to do the most, which is a drag. ... It can get better; it just hasn't yet. I haven't come to grips with the fact that I may never sing again. I'm still hoping I'm gonna get better. They say a positive attitude is important."
