As the rain continues to fall and the flood waters continue to rise from Hurricane Harvey in Houston Texas, thousands are being forced from their homes. The American Red Cross is helping and you can too.

Fifteen Red Cross volunteers from the Eastern New York Region have been sent to  Texas, and more volunteers will be needed in the days and weeks to come.

If you want to help you can take part in 1 of 3 volunteer boot camps to prepare  for deployment.

The boot camps will run from 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M and will include a comprehensive overview of Red Cross relief operations during large-scale disasters, focusing on sheltering.

If you want to volunteer you must be willing and able to serve in a disaster-affected area for a minimum of 2 weeks within the next month. The Red Cross will cover all training and travel costs.

Can't volunteer but still want to help? Text "Harvey" to 90999 to donate $10 that will buy blankets for those who are being forced to evacuate to shelters.
