How To Make A Mint Julep On National Mint Julep Day
The un-official drink of the Kentucky Derby is the Mint Julip. I know the derby has come and gone for another year and so has the mint julep, thankfully, but today is National Mint Julip Day.
I was fortunate a number of years back to be on site for the running of the Kentucky Derby and free Mint Julep's for the press were everywhere. I don't know if you have ever tried one of these things but I swear to you on everything that is holy you could run a lawn mower on a mint julep.
Here is a pretty standard recipe for a mint julep:
4 mint leaves
1 teaspoon powdered sugar
2 teaspoons of water
2 oz of whiskey stir well and top with a mint sprig
I am not a lover of whiskey so you will have to take it with a grain of salt when I tell you these things are the worst thing on the planet. If you can choke one of these mint juleps down you're a better person than I. There are plenty of people out there that think Mint Julep's are the best. I say enjoy, I'll pass thank you.
