A Mount Vernon pastor who loves to donate produce to the less fortunate is not yet ready to part with his 111-pound watermelon.

Pastor Hugh Farrish, 77, owns a farm in Goshen, in southern New York State, near the New Jersey border. He often donates his wares to the Bowen Memorial Baptist Church in nearby Mount Vernon to help the needy. Farrish told News 12 in Westchester he was inspired by his grandfather’s similar charitable deeds. News 12 TV has a full report, an interview, and a video of the giant melon.

The Guinness Book of World Records claims the heaviest watermelon on record weighed 350.5 pounds and was grown and displayed in 2013 by Chris Kent of Sevierville, Tennessee.

As for Farrish, he says when he's ready to part with the melon, he plans on sharing it with others. That's gonna be one heck of a fruit salad.
