Hang on to your hats today...and your boats. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory and a Gale Warning for Lake Ontario. Strong winds could cause 10 to 15 foot waves on Lake Ontario.

The Gale Warning is in effect from 8am until 11pm Wednesday. Winds to 35 knots and waves of 10 to 14 feet are expected on Lake Ontario from Mexico Bay to the Saint Lawrence River. The strong winds will cause hazardous waves which could capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility.

Boaters are advised to remain in port and secure all boats.

A Wind Advisory is in effect from 10am to 8pm in central New York. 20 to 30 mph winds with gusts up to 50 mph is expected with the highest gusts in the Finger Lakes.

Scattered strong to even isolated severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon as well. A few storms may bring small hail.
