A tragic skiing accident has left a Cazenovia man paralyzed. Barclay Talbot broke his neck and lower spine after something went horribly wrong during a ski jump at Cazenovia Ski Club, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. It was the same jump he made successfully just days before.

Barclay's cousin Lauren Dowd Shedlock says the family is grateful he still has "upper mobility, the use of his hands and there was no brain damage. We are lucky to have him alive."

Talbot is currently in intensive care at Upstate Medical University where his family is by his side 24 hours a day. Plans are to move Talbot to Craig Hospital in Denver, the top rated spinal cord injury rehabilitation center in the country.

Shedlock says despite his devastating injury he's in "good spirits and continues to keep a positive attitude."

Family and friends have set up an online fundraising campaign to help cover the medical costs. Inpatient rehab aloine is $3-5k per day.

A fundraising account has also been setup at Key Bank. Donations can be mailed directly to the bank with checks made payable to: 'Barclay Talbot - Spine'

Shedlock says "Talbot has a long road ahead of him, but he's ready to get this show on the road."

A Facebook page has been created for Barclay's Road 2 Recovery and the family is giving updates on Barclay's condition at CaringBridge.org where his mother keeps a journal of her son's progress.
