State Police K9 teams were at Herkimer High School this morning to search all lockers and bathrooms in the building.

The search came at the request of Herkimer Central School District officials.

Troopers used dogs trained in narcotics and explosive detection.

No drugs or explosives were found during the search, which was conducted with the school in "hold in place" status.

The school district is required to perform 12 emergency drills in each school building each year, which includes four lockdown drills.

Parents were notified of the drill by phone at 8:35 a.m. The drill ended at 8:55.

“We want to thank the state police and Herkimer Police Department for their assistance,” Herkimer Central School Superintendent Robert Miller said.

Herkimer Police Chief Michael Jory says more searches of this nature will be conducted in the future.
