Technology…we all love it and certainly can’t do without it.  Am I right?  I’ve come up with a list, although not all inclusive, of some items that we just don’t seem to need anymore. Not saying that these things are not still in our homes, they just mostly don’t need to be or maybe we’ve found new uses for them.

21. Book Shelves – I have a few of these in my house, but they don’t contain a lot of books.  Mostly knickknacks.  Who has physical books anymore?  E-books are so in.

20. Drip Coffee Machines – Wait a second, I still have one of these, although more people are heading toward the Keurig machines or they are getting their coffee out.

19. Desktop Computers – We’re all on the go with laptops these days, plus the laptop has come down enough in price and haven gotten to be pretty powerful as well.

18. Cable TV – Eventually we’ll all be streaming.  I’m about halfway there now.

17. Printers – Still around, but in my opinion, most of these are junk and just don’t last that long unless you have one of the more expensive, high end models.

16. Incandescent Light Bulbs

15. Takeout Menus – Many restaurants have menus online now and you can even place your order online as well.

14. Printed Phone Books – Haven’t had one of these since my youngest has been able to reach the dinner table.

13. DVD Players – Streaming movies seems to be the way to go, along with digital copies of movies that you can purchase and watch anytime with your tablet/smart phones.

12. Calculators – Well, we do use these still, but they are on our phones now.

11. Entertainment Consoles – Mostly we just hang the TV on the wall now.

10. Answering Machines – Good riddance.

9. Home Phones – Most have cell phones and don’t really need both anymore.

8. Filing Cabinets – Most keep documents electronically now.

7. CD Racks – Nope.  I still have my CDs, however, they are sitting in an album now.

6. CD Burners – Most of us keep our music on the computer now.

5. Paper Shredders – For what?

4. China Cabinets – Eh, I still have one.

3. Fax Machines – Once again, email eliminates the use for these.

2. Rolodexes – What are these?

1. Alarm Clocks – Yep, I have one on my phone now, so don’t need a big clunker taking up space on my night stand.

What else can you think of?  Did I miss something?  We’ll see how this list changes in another 20 years.
