Giants Snag Quick WR In NFL Draft’s 1st Round – Odell Beckham
Many expected the Giants would look to bolster and replenish their Eli Manning protection unit, instead Big Blue decided to find Manning another weapon at wideout.
The Giants took LSU product Odell Beckham with the 12th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft’s first round. Beckham hasn’t put up the offensive numbers in the college that Sammy Watkins – who went to the Bills at No.4 – has, but he put up better numbers at the combine.
Standing 5′ 11” and roughly 200 pounds, Beckham ran a 40 time of 4.43 with an impressive 38.5 inch vertical leap and a 6.69 on the cone drill. Sound look a good route runner who can go up an get the ball. A good fit for Eli, who likes to miss high.
There was much ‘prognostication’ that the GMEN would grab an O-lineman, either Taylor Lewan from Michigan or Zack Martin out of Notre Dame with their first pick. Lewan ended up going just before the Giants had a chance to grab him – to Tennessee at No.11. They passed on Martin, who ended up with Dallas at 16th.
Beckham will be in the running for starting WR spot, competing against fellow LSU product Rueben Randle.
