Find Out Why Geico’s Commercial With Maxwell The Pig On A Date Ticks Off One Million Moms

I’ve always loved GEICO commercials and whether they convince me to buy car insurance is irrelevant, their stuff is just FUNNY! Their latest ad with Maxwell the Pig on a date is no different but it has caught the attention of a group called One Million Moms, who in a nutshell are people who in my estimation habitually make mountains out of molehills on their downtime.

The group is now asking its members to encourage GEICO to pull the ad you just watched because they believe it encourages bestiality. Here’s what the director of One Million Moms had to say:

“It was just a pretty sleazy type of commercial because the girl [in the commercial] was really disappointed when she realized they wouldn’t be able to pass the time alone together. Kids are drawn to animals. That’s normal. Animals are cute.  That’s why movies have animals that play the lead roles and the main parts. And it may be over their heads in terms of understanding the meaning behind it, but there’s a big concern when kids are being desensitized to this kind of thing.”

Here’s my reaction: This ad promoting bestiality couldn’t be further from the truth and is another classic example of a group who want to push their over-conservative agenda on unsuspecting marketers who are just trying to market their product with a witty approach. If this ad truly encourages bestiality then it also encourages researchers to train animals how to use cellphones, drive cars and learn to speak. Not to mention that this ad isn’t targeted at kids at all which is the irate group’s premise. If you condone this kind of ‘encouragement’ that One Million Moms is suggesting, where do you stop? Might as well pull all of the Muppet movies too that have human characters ‘involved’ with animal puppets, etc…


I came from a Christian background and while on the surface this might seem like a good cause to so-called enlightened eyes, in reality the actual implications of this kind of uptightness and paranoia has far more harmful effects on our children than this GEICO commercial is being twisted to have. The pig, the gecko and others are simply icons and trademarks of these companies and most people watching ads take them for exactly what they are, humorous spots, nothing more nothing less.

Now, I’m a dad three times over and in One Million Mom’s defense, there is TONS of inappropriate content not just in our media but in our society in general, but this and many more of their stances they take are just plain ridiculous. Kids aren’t desensitized to this commerical, the bestiality angle just doesn’t even occur to them. That kind of thing only occurs to adults who are LOOKING for it because the fact is, we grown-ups are pros at reading whatever we want to into something. I’d rather spend my time educating my kids on far more real and obvious dangers than to confuse them by jumping at apparitions and discuss subtleties with them (where they exist) when they actually HAVE the ability to read between the lines.
