Wednesday's Baltimore Orioles - Chicago Whites Sox game will be played in a virtually empty stadium.

The game will be 'closed to the public' for safety reasons after rioting that continues in the Baltimore area this week after the funeral of Freddie Gray -  a man who suffered a severe spinal injury and died after being taken into police custody. The disruption the protests and looting have caused prompted MLB and Orioles officials to cancel the first two games of the series at Camden Yards on Monday and Tuesday. They've also moved this weekend's series against the Rays in Baltimore to Tampa Bay's Tropicana Field.

Wednesday' game is scheduled to begin at 2:05 p.m.

An MLB spokesman told ESPN's Outside The Lines that the league is not aware of any other time that a major league game has been played, by design, without spectators allowed in to watch.
