So do you like my Pirate Day jokes? Neither did ayye!

See we think that a pirate doesn't have two eyes and that is why they wear an eye patch to cover their missing or injured eye. FAKE NEWS!

Some historians believe that they wore an eye patch to improve their night vision. Pirate ships are dark and it gets really hard to see at night on the boat. The swashbucklers would also find themselves fighting in the dark too.

The used the eye patch to "trick" their vision into adjusting to darkness faster. Our eyes have a build-in delay when it switches from light to darkness. It can take 20 minutes for your eyes to adjust to night vision.

Try it for yourself. The next time you get up in the middle of the night, cover one eye before turning on the light. Look at something, turn on the light, and open your eyes. See how fast your eyes adjust.

It's also believed that they would switch the eye patch when they would go into the dark to help the process along. So there you go, some entertainment and education to get you through your day.

Do you want more Pirate jokes? Harrr you go.
