Utica Man Leads Police on Second 100 MPH Chase in Two Days

A Utica man lead police on a second 100 mph car chase in two days and due to bail reform he's back on the streets.

Utica Police were called to the area of Court Street when they noticed a vehicle that had been stolen earlier in the day.

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled. The chase went through Utica into Yorkville and Whitesboro and back into Utica where it ended after the vehicle got a flat tire. Police say the driver reached speeds of over 100 mph during the pursuit.

As the driver was taken from the vehicle, police noticed it was the same man who led them on a long pursuit two days before when he struck police vehicles in his attempt to flee at that time.

Alexander Walker has now led police on two pursuits exceeding speeds of 100 miles an hour on city streets in less than 48 hours. He was issued over 20 tickets, and charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Obstructing Governmental Administration, and Fleeing an Officer to Motor Vehicle Third. "Alex Walker's actions have shown to be an extreme danger to both Police Officers and the public," Utica Police said.

Due to bail reform laws Walker has been issued tickets and released.

"We will do everything in our power to keep the public safe from individuals like this, however if it is not a qualifying offense and as the result of bail reform, we must release them. Please understand our frustrations are just as high as everyone else, but that will not deter us from continuing to do our job and diligently keep public safety as our number one priority."
