Police in New Hartford are dealing with false information on social media that mentioned "school shooting" which created deep concerns within the community.
A grade-school student in a Central New York school district will face disciplinary action and undergo a mental health evaluation for a threat he made against the school.
The response included an order for students to shelter in place, a police presence on campus, and a check of the school property by State Police K9 units, police said.
A teenager was arrested, charged with falsely reporting an incident after S. S. Seward High School was forced to lockdown and evacuate by State Police and the FBI.
In a 'Security Alert' email sent to parents Tuesday night, Executive Principal Roy Kane said the families of those affected by the threat had been alerted and were told to stay home Wednesday. Additionally, all after school activites Wednesday (Oct. 30) are cancelled.
