Syracuse Protests Including Voter Registration Drive

Protests over the death of George Floyd are continuing across the globe. In Syracuse, protesters have adding a voter registration drive to their efforts.

Utica and Rome have seen peaceful gatherings of demonstrators. Elsewhere in New York, including Syracuse, protests have led to violence and looting.

Yesterday, according to Spectrum reporter Briana Walker, protesters were working to register people to vote as part of their efforts to be heard.

In a Facebook post, Briana reports organizers say they hoped to register 400 voters, because "change starts in the voting booth."

If you're not registered to vote, and you'd like to be, you can register to vote online in New York on the DMV website.

In order to register, you'll need:

NYS driver license, permit, or non-driver ID card
ZIP Code currently on record with the DMV
Social security number

While voter turnout has been improving in parts of Central New York, every eligible voter should register, and be certain to cast their votes on election days. The organizers have it right: Change starts at the voting booth.
