New York Educators Make Inappropriate Comments Following Charlie Kirk’s Death
New York officials are demanding an investigation into inappropriate social media posts made by some educators following the shooting death of Charlie Kirk.
Charlie Kirk Killed
Last week, we learned that American political activist Charlie Kirk was fatally shot while addressing a live audience on the campus of Utah Valley University in Utah. The tragic shooting not only sparked outrage in most Americans, it also allowed some New York educators to share hateful and inappropriate comments (below) on social media. Those comments have resulted in some being placed on administrative leave and one New York politician calling for an investigation.
New York State Teacher Placed on Leave
A teacher in Western New York was placed on administrative leave last week after a series of social media posts that were "inappropriate, inflammatory, and offensive", using "disparaging language to describe Mr. Kirk's supporters," said Merritt Holly, superintendent of schools for the LeRoy Central School District in Le Roy, NY. According to WGRZ, the teacher, who wasn't identified, posted an apology saying in part,
"I sincerely apologize to the community of Le Roy, my colleagues, and especially the students and parents for my actions and the impact they have had."
New York Educators Make Inappropriate Comments
Similar comments celebrating Kirk's death were made in other New York school districts, prompting House Republican Leadership Chairwoman Elise Stefanik to announce that her office is calling on Governor Kathy Hochul to initiate an investigation into inappropriate social media posts made by some New York educators following the tragic shooting death of Charlie Kirk.

Comments, including a Beekmantown Central School mathematics teacher who publicly celebrated Kirk’s death by posting profanities on Facebook and stating, "At least he died happy... surrounded by white folk! (Utah!)," said Stefanik. "This is not an isolated incident. At Naples Central School, a faculty member reportedly made multiple social media posts spewing profanity directed at Trump supporters and followers of Charlie Kirk, including referring to Kirk as a “Nazi” and “aspiring Goebbels,” a grotesque and historically illiterate comparison to the Nazi regime's chief propagandist."
New York Politician Demands Investigation
Stefanik is demanding that Gov Hochul's office and the New York State Department of Education do an immediate review of these cases and identify any additional cases where public educators have made inappropriate, hateful, or violent remarks related to this tragedy.
Stefanik stated,
"It has come to my attention that in the wake of the tragic and horrific murder of Charlie Kirk, a number of public school educators across New York State have made deeply inappropriate, offensive, and unprofessional comments on social media platforms. While these individuals represent a very small minority, their conduct is disturbing and inconsistent with the high standards expected of educators in New York State."
Stefanik is expecting "swift" and "decisive action". It's unclear if an investigation is underway or not, but when more information is available, we will update this article.
