Making sure your child's car seat is installed correctly can make all the difference in the unfortunate event that you have a crash, and this weekend, local families can have theirs checked for free.

The Village of Ilion Police Department and the New York State Governor's Traffic Safety Committee are hosting a free Child Passenger Safety Seat Check Event on Sunday, July 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ilion Municipal Building rear parking lot, located beside the Ilion Police Department.

Get Your Car Seat Checked by a Certified Safety Tech

Certified child passenger safety technicians will be on-site to inspect car seats and make sure they're properly installed, fit correctly, and are being used safely for your child.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to bring:

  • Their vehicle
  • The child passenger safety seat currently being used
  • Their child, if possible, to ensure the best fit

No Appointment Needed

One of the best parts? The service is completely free, and no appointment is necessary. There are also no residency requirements, so anyone is welcome to stop by.

According to safety experts, many car seats are installed incorrectly, even by well-meaning parents. A quick inspection can help identify common issues like loose installation, incorrect harness placement, or using a seat that's no longer appropriate for a child's age or size.
