Heavy, Wet Snow, Sleet and Freezing Rain in Central New York

A Winter storm is bringing heavy wet snow, sleet and freezing rain to Central New York and could cause power outages.

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Strom Warning from 1pm Monday through Tuesday afternoon. The Warning is now an Advisory but it's still in effect until 1 this afternoon. Snow amounts have also decreased from 12 inches to only 6.

* LOCATIONS...Northern Oneida, Yates, Seneca, Southern Cayuga, Onondaga, Steuben, Schuyler, Chemung, Tompkins, Madison, Southern Oneida, Cortland, Chenango, Otsego, Tioga, Broome counties. Includes the cities of Boonville, Seneca Falls, Auburn, Syracuse, Corning, Hornell, Watkins Glen, Elmira, Ithaca, Hamilton, Oneida, Rome, Utica, Cortland, Norwich, Oneonta, Oswego

* ACCUMULATIONS...3 to 6 inches of heavy, wet snow and sleet with higher amounts possible. The heaviest accumulations will be over the higher elevations with lower amounts in the valley.

* TIMING...Snow and sleet, heavy at times, will continue night into early Tuesday before diminishing West to East midday Tuesday into the afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Snow and sleet accumulations will make many road treacherous and travel very dangerous by late Monday and continuing Tuesday. The storm will be accompanied by strong winds which will add to the impact of the snow and ice, potentially leading to power outages.

* WINDS...11 to 15 MPH with gusts of 30 MPH.
