Foods To Help Fight Your Flu
It's cold and flu season. It's gone around our house and our building at work. How can you avoid getting sick? Wash your hands. If you've already gotten the flu, try these foods to help fight it off, or reduce the length of your symptoms.
Greek Yogurt
Greek yogurt is filled with probiotics and 'Probiotics are healthy microorganisms that can help support bacterial balance in the gut,' dietician Jaime Mass tells MSN. Balanced gut bacteria can reduced your chances of getting an infection.
Green Tea
Green tea is filled with antioxidants to help fight off viruses. Since we need to hydrate while sick, green tea makes a great choice.
Citrus Fruits
Citrus fruits like oranges, lemons and grapefruits are filled with Vitamin C, another antioxidant.
Chicken Noodle Soup
Chicken Noodle soup can help prevent white blood cells from congregating in your respiratory tract and can help soothe your symptoms according to research from the Nebraska Medical Center.
Sardines
Not as tasty as Chicken Noodle soup, but sardines are filled with Vitamin D, which improves our immune system.
Ginger
Galanolactone, a component found in ginger can help alleviate nausea. Drink ginger tea, ginger ale or try sucking on a ginger candy.
Red Meat
Red meat is filled with zinc, which helps make white blood cells that fight for your immune system. This may help reduce the length of your symptoms.
From the sounds of it, you should drink green tea and ginger ale, while eating Chicken Noodle soup filled with sardines, oranges and ginger, with a side of yogurt. If you pile it all together, will it make you better faster?
