As many of you have heard, Toma's Mohawk Mini Market is closing its doors after nearly 25 years in business. Toma's is known for its friendly staff, great tabouli and amazing hummus. As a matter of fact, Toma's made my Best Places to Get Hummus in Utica list (ranking number 2). It's sad to see such a well-known Utica establishment fade away.

Toma's Owner Tony Jabour said hard economic times caused him to close the market, which opened in February 1989.

"I can't do it anymore," Jabour said. "It's not feasible."

Having been a customer for years, I can say that every time I went to Toma's, I was greeted with a smile. I will definitely miss stopping in for some hummus to go.

Jabour said he is getting that same sad reaction from customers who are finding out the market is closing.

"[Toma's] has been part of my life for 25 years," he said. "I've treated customers well and with a smile."

When asked if there is anything he would like to say to his customers, Jabour said he loves everyone.

"Thank you for the support. It's sad we have to go."

Jabour is not sure about the future, but he did say he would like to open a new place in the future, if the opportunity arrises.

Toma's Mohawk Mini Market is expected to close tomorrow, Friday, January 3. Jabour did say there is a possibility it will stay open through the weekend.
