First responders made an ice water rescue on Thursday.  A young male deer had fallen through the ice and into the frigid waters of the Erie Canal near Spencerport.  Fire fighters told WHAM-TV that the deer was in distress and in need of help.

Four members of the Spencerport FD suited up in gear designed for ice water rescues and dove into the freezing water.  The TV station reported that the animal's rear legs were stuck in the mud and it took about 30 minutes to get the deer out of the water.

After the rescue, the deer rested on the bank next to the canal, while being petted by his rescuers.  The Firefighters said he took off into the woods once he regained his strength.
