91 year old World War II veteran Don Fida of Syracuse will be recognized in Albany as a 2015 Veterans' Hall of Fame honoree.

Syracuse.com reports Fida enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and served as a member of the 184th Infantry Regiment of the 7th Infantry Division.

He was the only Army soldier able to return to the remote island of Kwajalein for the 71st commemoration of the battle there. In addition to combat on Kwajalein, Fida served in four more battles, including Okinawa. He was a scout in the Philippines, where he was wounded. Fida was awarded a Purple Heart. "

Fida's story of war is currently available to listen to in the U.S. Library of Congress.
