It was an extraordinary night for Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) researchers at Ohio State when an radio signal broke through the white noise.

The operator on duty noticed something unexplained that came in from deep space.  The radio waves were recorded on computer printouts.  Next to the annomonly, he wrote simply 'WOW.'

Now in 2011, scientists still aren't sure what the WOW transmission was or who made it.

Arizona State professior Paul Davies told News24

It was a rather long pulse; it wasn't a blip. It's never been satisfactorily explained as a natural phenomenon.
