60 inches. That's how much snow fell in Buffalo three years ago, crashing into homes, stranding drivers and closing the New York State Thruway. We won't see that much in central New York, but the first storm of the season could bring up to 10 inches.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for central New York from this afternoon through Monday evening.

Heavy lake effect snow could make for difficult travel conditions, including during the morning commute on Monday. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 7 inches, with localized amounts up to 10 inches, are possible in Oneida, Onondaga, and Madison Counties.

A Wind Advisory is also in effect until 5pm this afternoon with gusts up to 50 mph causing areas of blowing and drifting snow, especially this evening through early Monday morning. Winds may blow down trees and power lines, causing scattered outages in central New York.
