A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect forecasting snow, sleet and freezing rain. That's a recipe for some hazardous travel conditions during  Christmas weekend. 

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Northern and Southern Oneida, including Rome, Boonville and Utica until 4 am on Saturday 12/23/17 with another possible storm right on its heels.

The storm system will bring periods of snow very late tonight. Up to 2 inches of snow is expected by daybreak Friday. Plan on slippery road conditions with reduced visibility during the morning commute.

Snow will continue and could be briefly heavy at times Friday. The snow could mix with sleet, freezing rain and rain for a time Friday evening. Snowfall accumulations are expected to range from 4 to 6 inches by Friday night.

The next storm could bring accumulating snow Christmas Eve night into Christmas Day that could hinder travel plans.

AAA forecasts 107.3 million Americans travel during the year-end holiday period from Saturday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Jan. 1 making it the highest year-end travel volume on record. Here's the breakdown:

  • 97.4 Million by car
  • 6.4 Million by air
  • 3.6 Million by train, bus and cruise ships
