Here in Central New York spring begins when the snow melts for the final time (and doesn't come back) and isn't tied to a specific day on the calendar, but for everyone who's had it with wintery weather by now, maybe looking forward to a future day might help get you through the doldrums. Try March 20th at 7:02 AM coinciding with the Vernal Equinox. The Vernal Wha?

The term 'vernal' is another term for spring and an 'equinox' (latin meaning 'equal night') happens twice a year when the earth's axis isn't tilted at all like it normally is which basically means that day and night are the exact same length for those living along the equator. However, according to the sunrise, sunset calendar for us here in the Utica, NY area, TODAY is the day when that occurs for us because we're further north. FIST PUMP!! Sunrise was this morning at 7:08 AM and will set tonight at 7:09 PM then from there the nights will start to get shorter as the days get longer! Bring on the summer already!!
