According to Songfacts the Loggins and Messina version of "Your Mama Don't Dance" is based on "Your Mama Don't Allow" by the Rooftop Singers in 1963. This was the first hit for Loggins and Messina even though it was on their second album. The song expresses the frustrations of many kids about how uncool their parents are.
