It was on this day in 1989 that Poison’s “Your Mama Don’t Dance” peaked at number 10 on the singles chart. That was 17 years after the original was released.

According to Songfacts the Loggins and Messina version of “Your Mama Don’t Dance” is based on “Your Mama Don’t Allow” by the Rooftop Singers in 1963. This was the first hit for Loggins and Messina even though it was on their second album. The song expresses the frustrations of many kids about how uncool their parents are.
