I believe, inevitably, at some point in every family, this happens...maybe more than once.  Last week, my youngest, came downstairs and ran smack into his Christmas presents.  We had them in the basement and the kids know they are not to go into the basement without permission, plus there is absolutely no reason for them to go down there in the first place.  However, he went down anyway and because they were just about to be wrapped, he saw everything in one big pile.  I could have screamed, and I believe my actually did.  He became very upset and he definitely did not do it on purpose.  He quickly explained to my wife that he didn't see anything, but she tells me that he was looking right at everything.  I'm sure he just didn't want to think that he ruined Christmas.  Wife was mad at first, but what can you do really?  Technically it wasn't his fault.  What do you tell them?  Do you explain the truth behind Santa?  I would be interested to know how you covered in this situation.
