Have you noticed several gold mailboxes around Central New York? Chantelle Nobis of Taberg started 'Uniting in Gold For our Children' in honor of her daughter Amelia who had a rare brain tumor.

"I am creating this event in honor of my daughter that had a grade three cancerous brain tumor the size of a golf ball removed from her small 4 yr old head a year ago, and for every other child going through the horrible world of cancer. No child (or adult) should have to go through this."

Chantelle is hoping to paint CNY in gold for child cancer awareness month. "I am asking we light up the streets with GOLD to bring awareness...decorating your mailbox, light post, whatever you have for the month of September."

This isn't the first time the community has come together to support the Nobis family. People wore yellow, Amelia’s favorite color during her surgery, helped with the chores on the family farm, brought food or just sent a prayer, something Pete Nobis says they aren’t use to, but are grateful for. “It just shows you all the good in the world and we can’t wait to pay it forward.”

The family is paying it forward by donating to Cure Search and asking others to do the same. "It's time we come together and try to do the best we can on helping to bring awareness and funding to childhood cancer."

Go gold and share your photos at Uniting in Gold on Facebook.
