The Onondaga County Health Department has found the West Nile virus in the town of Cicero. Evidence of West Nile was found on Island Road.

According to Syracuse.com, this is the first finding of West Nile virus in Onondaga County for the 2015 year. There have been no human cases of West Nile virus reported in Onondaga County so far this year.

"We now know definitively that West Nile and EEE are in our environment, therefore, it is extremely important for residents to take measures to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes and to eliminate standing water from their property," Onondaga County Health Commissioner Indu Gupta said in a news release."

Symptoms from the virus include sudden high fever, muscle pains, and a headache of increasing severity. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should seek medical attention.
