Germany wanted to test their engineering skills and decided to build (and fly) the world's first electric multicopter VTOL.

Thomas Senkel made the first manned flight with an electric multicopter in southwest Germany and while the flight only lasted about 90 seconds it is viewed as the future of aviation. Because of the VTOL's (Vertical Take Off and Land)  design it is extremely stable and could be very well our next step towards those flying cars.
