Three months after myself and two fellow Oldiez DJs: Davey Jones and Alex Cooper cooked up this idea in a small office, the Keith James All Star Band finally took to the stage for the first annual jam of it's kind! 125 of CNY's own musicians were nominated over the course of the contest and north of 107,000 of your votes were cast to put the first band of it's kind together for one night only at Cavallo's!

The night kicked off with All Star guitarist, Jared Wentrick's original metal band 'Against All Odds' warming up the crowd with their high-energy songs that they wrote, putting these five high schoolers very much on the map, keep an ear out for these guys in the future! They held their own just fine in a room full of veteran musicians, all of which were madly impressed despite the fact that they forgot their earplugs, haha. No sooner did they get up it seemed, then they were already tearing down making room for the next band...

Next up was your All Star drummer, Ken Race and his southern rock band 'Downshift' who brought their unique flavor to the stage and whipped the crowd into a further frenzy sporting a harmonica player and a sound that harkens to a 'Goverment Mule' blues jam band flavor with some serious grit. The lead singer actually traveled from Virginia JUST to play this show! Their set also flew by so fast making us all want more but there was yet another band to showcase...

All Star singer, Kelly Preston closed out the winner band lineup with her guys in Hot Roxx and reminded us that there are a plethora of female-led songs that we haven't heard played live in a long time. She also took on several classics by male artists all of which had the crowd smiling and singing along getting them ready for the crown jewel of the evening...

Two and a half hours after the first note of music was played the full All Star Band was finally onstage together and the energy was absolutely ELECTRIC. Nearly 200 people came out to see us and from all over the CNY area and beyond and we were not about to disappoint. We'd never rehearsed before and this was the first time this lineup had ever played together but we were ready to let our collective notes fly and that we did!

One All Star had yet to take the stage, Walt Butler of Gridley Paige who took a night off from his normal band in order to join us! With him on bass, we were finally ready to do our thing, whatever that meant! Just like the others before us, our set FLEW and next thing we knew we were playing our last song bidding farewell to the crowd and our fellow musicians all of which will likely never be in a room together again. Here's the band closing out the night...

A huge thank you goes out to all of the fans for both nominating and voting and of course for making the trip out whether near or far and whether you stayed for one band or them all. A HUGE thank you to all of the musicians who VOLUNTEERED their time for the entire evening, to Tim Perry for providing the PA so you could hear us. Was great to play for my fellow Townsquare and Oldiez cronies too whom only get to see me spin tunes rather than play them, thanks for being an amazing team all of you. Cheers to a great night and already looking forward to next year... Stay tuned!
