On this day in 1965, "The Beatles" played before their largest live audience ever in that famous concert at Shea Stadium (former home of the New York Mets) in New York City.

According to Wikipedia:

"The Shea Stadium concert on 15 August was record breaking and one of the most famous concert events of its era. It set records for attendance and revenue generation. Promoter Sid Bernstein said, "Over 55,000 people saw the Beatles at Shea Stadium." This demonstrated that outdoor concerts on a large scale could be successful and profitable."
