Warning to Parents: Private Photo Apps Available For Phones And Tablets

Look out parents.  Oh I just love it when I premise a story with a warning like that, don’t you?  We seem to be hearing more and more “Look out” as we travel through this journey we call parenthood. 

Well get a load of this…there is a new App in the Apple store called “Private Photo”.  Apparently it looks like a calculator, but when a specific number is entered into “calculator”, a private photo gallery appears, and I can guarantee you won’t find pictures of the family cat in there.

So, with that, if you have a child that has their own iphone, you may want to take a moment to review their download history.  You know how kids operate…if someone is using it, it won’t be long before most of them are using it.  And, unfortunately, you have those parents who strive to be the “cool parents”, and they will be the ones who end up having the kids with this type of software on their phones.

I have an 11 year old this year and she inherited her mom’s iphone 5.  We created a child’ apple ID, which allows us to get a notification anytime she attempts to download any type of app.  She doesn’t get anything by us…yet.  Kids are smart, they’ll come up with something new sooner or later.

The app boasts a 4.5 star rating in the App Store, based on nearly 3,000 reviews. Users can also pay $.99 to unlock unlimited photo storage.

The Google Play Store, which offers apps for Android devices, has a similar app called "Smart Hide Calculator.

Definitely keep an eye out for these, if you have a youngster toting a smart phone or tablet around these days.
