The American Cancer Society is seeking volunteers in Utica to be a part of the annual Relay For Life Utica event scheduled for June 11 and 12 at Mohawk Valley Community College.

Community volunteers assist in each local event with the support of Society staff. There are various volunteer opportunities for interested community members, some of which include: registration, set-up, clean-up, survivor reception, and luminaria ceremony.

The Relay For Life program is a community-based event where teams and individuals camp out at a school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path.  Each team has at least one participant on the track at all times and participates in raising funds to support the American Cancer Society’s mission to finish the fight against cancer.  Four million people participated in more than 6,000 events worldwide last year.

The Relay For Life movement is all about our community uniting to finish the fight against cancer,” said Robert Elinskas, Specialist, Relay For Life.  “We rely on the support of volunteers to help make the event a success.”
